Precast workers' comp insurance · New England

Workers' comp & silica programs for precast plants.

Precast comp is a heavy class: crews handling multi-ton product under overhead cranes, with a regulated silica exposure running through every dry operation in the plant. The mod you carry is the score of how well all of it is managed.

What goes wrong, and what responds.

The exposures below are the ones this coverage exists to answer — across every product line and plant on the program.

Exposure
What happens & what responds
SILICA

Respirable crystalline silica

Cutting, grinding, mixing and cleanup generate regulated silica exposure. It's an occupational disease risk for your people and a compliance obligation for the plant — and a documented program is the answer to both.Responds: Workers' comp & OSHA-aligned silica program

LIFT

Material handling

Strains, crush injuries and caught-between incidents around forms, dunnage and product drive both frequency and severity in precast plants.Responds: Workers' compensation

CRANE

Under the hook

Struck-by and dropped-load incidents beneath overhead cranes are the severity scenario every precast safety program is really about.Responds: Workers' comp & crane/rigging practices

MOD

The experience mod

Your mod directly multiplies premium and increasingly gets checked by GCs before they'll let you on site — claims management is bid strategy, not just insurance hygiene.Responds: Mod analysis & claims advocacy

RTW

Return to work

Modified-duty programs shrink claim costs and keep experienced people attached to the operation instead of at home building a bigger claim.Responds: Return-to-work program design

One program, whole operation

Coverage lines don't work alone.

This line is one piece of a coordinated program — the seams between coverages are where uninsured claims live. See how it fits together on the program overview, or find your product segment in the footer below.

Precast workers' comp insurance FAQ

Common questions, straight answers.

For anything specific to your operation, call 978-897-7773 and ask about the Precast Concrete Manufacturers Insurance Program.

What does a silica program require for a precast plant?
Exposure assessment, controls like wet methods and ventilation, respiratory protection where controls aren't enough, medical surveillance for exposed workers, and written documentation of all of it. Beyond compliance, the documented program is what protects your comp experience from occupational disease claims years down the road. Building it is part of the risk-management side of this program.
Can our experience mod really affect whether we win work?
Yes — many GCs and owners screen subcontractors and suppliers by mod, sometimes with a hard cutoff. A high mod costs you twice: on every premium dollar and on jobs you never hear about. Managing open claims and correcting mod calculation errors is some of the highest-ROI work on a comp program.
Our payroll swings with the construction season. How should comp be set up?
On reporting that follows actual payroll rather than a flat annual estimate — otherwise you finance the carrier through the winter and still face an audit. Classification accuracy matters just as much: plant, yard, driver and clerical payroll carry very different rates, and misclassification is the most common comp overcharge we find.
