Structural precast insurance · New England

Structural precast insurance for New England producers.

Beams, columns, double tees and hollowcore carry buildings — and carry your liability for decades after the pour. The exposures below are where structural producers actually see claims, and what responds to each.

Exposure matrix

What goes wrong, and what responds.

The exposures below are the ones that actually generate claims in this segment. Each one maps to a specific coverage on the program — that mapping is the underwriting.

Ref
Exposure
What happens & what responds
FAIL

Products & completed operations

A member or connection problem discovered years after erection triggers claims on every project it shipped to. In structural precast, the completed-ops tail is the exposure that dwarfs everything else.Responds: GL products–completed operations & umbrella

SPEC

Delegated design responsibility

Design-assist work and delegated connection design create professional liability that a general liability policy was never meant to answer.Responds: Professional liability (E&O)

LIFT

Stripping, handling & load-out

Tilting, moving and loading multi-ton members under overhead cranes concentrates injury severity in the yard.Responds: Workers' compensation & property

SET

Erection & crane set

On many contracts a member is yours until it's set and accepted — and a dropped tee damages far more than the tee.Responds: Inland marine (installation floater) & GL

HAUL

Oversize & overweight hauls

Long members on the highway mean permits, escorts, route surveys and real severity when something goes wrong.Responds: Commercial auto & umbrella

One program, whole operation

This segment rarely travels alone.

Most producers cast more than one product line and run their own delivery. The program underwrites the whole operation together — see the other segments below or start from the program overview.

Structural precast insurance FAQ

Common questions, straight answers.

For anything specific to your operation, call 978-897-7773 and ask about the Precast Concrete Manufacturers Insurance Program.

Why do completed-operations limits matter so much for structural precast?
Because structural claims surface late — often years after erection — and one defect pattern can span many projects. Completed-operations coverage is what responds after your work is done and in service, and project owners and GCs typically require specific limits for it. It's the first thing we size on a structural account.
Do we need professional liability if the engineer of record stamps the drawings?
Often yes. When you do design-assist work, delegate connection design, or your engineers seal shop drawings, you've taken on professional exposure that GL policies commonly exclude. A products-focused E&O policy closes that gap; whether you need it depends on how your contracts actually read.
Are members covered between the plant and final acceptance?
Only if the program is built that way. Transit and installation floaters cover product from load-out through setting and acceptance — the window where a single pick can destroy a six-figure member. We match the coverage trigger to the acceptance language in your contracts.
